Beyond the Books
Ness lives in Sydney with her partner and their two cats, Steve and Alan, who generously allow her to live in their house and occasionally assist with writing by sitting on the keyboard.
She's a storyteller, avid traveller, beach enthusiast and writes for people navigating the same questions she asked herself: What's next? How do I get there? And can I actually pull this off? (Spoiler: you can.)
About Ness Heckscher
After more than 20 years working across events, marketing and consulting globally, Ness Heckscher is doing what many professionals her age are contemplating: figuring out what comes next.
She spent nearly a decade living and working in the Middle East, built a freelance consulting practice, delivered major projects across multiple industries and eventually returned to Australia to design the next chapter.
Now in her 50s, she writes about the things she's had to figure out herself: how to leave a secure corporate role, how to build a consulting business, how to work internationally without sacrificing flexibility, how to monetise skills you didn't know were valuable and how to approach retirement without losing your sense of purpose – and what to do when your partner doesn't have one.
What she writes
Ness didn't set out to write books about career change. She set out to solve her own problems.
Ness is the author of The Midlife Transformation Series – practical guides for professionals over 40 navigating career change, consulting, remote work and retirement – and Retired and Underfoot: A Bloke's Guide to Not Wrecking Your Marriage, inspired by her own partner's upcoming retirement and conversations with friends facing the same challenge.
